The search of knowledge is endless

Assalamualaikum,

Ahlul Mawaddah..=)
Alhamdulillah atas segala nikmat yg dikurniakan Allah dan kesempatan bertemu Eidul Adha. cuma raya kali ni is on weekdays, n pg tu xsmpt p solat raya kt masjid. just wt sama2 housemates kt umh je. Tp Alhamdulillah for everything. smpt jgk ptg tu msk ckt2 pulut kuning by chef Ain, kuah kacang by chef Farah, rendang daging by chef Nasrah n myself just wt sambal bilis. dpt la merasa suasana di pg raya di perantauan..hehe..=)

Surah Al-Hajj:35

Anyway, harini baru abes rotation Obs & Gynae n we just finished one continuous assessment, 40 MCQs. tricky n very specific..like the answers you can only know if you READ & MEMORIZE the RCPI, RCOG, NICE guidelines not just from the books. fuhhh.. byk mmg byk..sbb we gonna be the future clinicians yg safe to the patients ie uptodate to the newest local guidelines. and I come out with a theory that "what uncommon is apparently common in MCQ", different from long case GP yg selalunye people say " what common is common"

So, the search of knowledge is endless. teruskan berjuang wahai teman.. this is just the beginning. one thing to also reflect is how much we study pon, there's always more to know, to learn, to experience and to improve ourself ultimately. Just, don't stop learning and be complacent! like really, never feel that we knew a lot already about that topic, because Allah Yang Maha Mengetahui lagi Maha Bijaksana..

In one of the tutorial by our great Prof Higgins yg tulis RCPI punye guidelines, he said in the long case when we are presenting the lie of the fetus, say " I think the lie is longitudinal and the fetal's spine is on the left maternal side, but I would like to confirm with the ultrasound scan". The keyword here is "I think" which shows you know your limit. because a good doctor is confident but also humble at the same time and knows her limit so that we know where to find help. and the best Helper is Allah.

FocusOn please.. abah n mama pesan final year ni bg last jerk ckt.. momentum kne steady, power lg infact..come on..we can do this In shaa Allah..May Allah gives us strength and ease our journey utk jd doctor ummah yg Berjaya..Aminn..

till then..see you again..=)

O&G Elective posting in HTJ

Assalamualaikum sume,

dgn Dr. Farhana yg byk tunjuk ajar. =)
Alhamdulillah atas segala nikmat yg dikurniakan Allah dan kesempatan bertemu Ramadhan..Salam 17 Ramadhan suda..da nk msk fasa terakhir da xlama lg..momentum kne laju ckt ye..

Alhamdulillah juga sbb da berjaya tamatkan elektif O&G kt Hospital Tuanku Jaafar selama sebulan..ilmu dan pengalaman yg xboleh dilupakan.. pahit manis sume ade..FYI, the O&G healthcare in HTJ is very advanced compared dgn negara lain sebab kt HTJ diabetic moms are induced at 37 weeks when in fact benda tu bru ade dlm NICE guideline. hebat! so, few life lessons utk take note drp doctors in HTJ sepanjang elektif, :

1. Attitude is the most important thing.
Dr. A: why do u wanna become a doctor? (Ssambil bg this article for us to read)
what do you think about this? and why this happened?

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/fatigue-lack-of-housemanship-causing-new-doctors-to-quit-says-report

One out of five doctors undergoing their housemanship quits annually in Malaysia and some are working as waiters, running pasar malam stalls and even an air stewardess. -
Among the reasons cited for dropping out include unsuitability for the profession, misconception of a doctor’s life, inability to work long hours and suffering from burnout.
Your intention need to be right in the first place.. and attitude tu kne jg. jgn dok cpt sgt mengadu, complain etc. prepare la wahai diri. =.=

 2. Determination and passionate
Dr. L: Being a doctor means you are not going to have a normal social life and free time like your other friends. Sometimes, when there is too much workload, you may feel like you wanna give up especially during surgical rotation.
Me: So, how do you survived doc?
Dr. L: Being determined!

3. Mothers first! baby second.
The first MO that I met during my elective posting advised to attend the pass handover meeting everyday at 7.30am. And I was like so surprised! mihi..never thought that it would be that early.

Then after attending it, I realised the importance of that meeting and I learnt so much about management issues and the attitude to deal with it and obviously how to present cases to the HOD. from the antenatal history, labour progress to intra-op and post-delivery with Apgar score, base excess, NICU/SCN admission etc. to sum up case yg common are:

1. Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. ni doc sume akn monitor very closely on the Blood Sugar Profile(BSP), ultrasound scan, nephro tour, dietician and pharmacist.

2. Pre-eclampsia; MgSO4 for cerebral protection and seizure prophylaxis. prohylaxis aspirin kalau high risk.

3. Preterm prelabour rupture of membrane. dilemma arised whether to do expectant managament or deliver baby tp premature? haa.O&G ni mmg byk dilemma..so kne wt decision wisely and always prioritize the mother first. next is the baby.

4. Hyperemesis gravidarum quite common jgk. always trace urine feme and treat with hartman solution.

5. Placenta Praevia; staging and management of delivery. selalunye C-sec.

6. Labour room plak: kne master how to plot partogram, staging of labour-know the primary and seconday labour dysfunction etc. PPH is second leading cause of maternal mortality in Msia after venous thromboembolism. pernah encounter sekali. tp in this 4 weeks elective je, almost every week ade 1/2 case of PPH. plg severe 1.2L.

and the list goes onn...hee..

4. Independence motivates you
Actually ok je wt elektif sorg2. walaupun third week tu da dpt gang, yong jei jeng, classmate from kgv. but ok je. because ble sorg2 u become more curious to learn more.. instead of dgn kwn sbb da in comfort zone. maybe, aku je yg rse..tp dua2 pn ok. as long as you know what your are going to do, you will be fine.

5. Smile and introduce yourself politely
Most of the time, doc baik2 je nk mengajar sume..especially specialist yg da biasa dgn students mcm Prof. Zain, Dr. Jamal* etc.. ramai sgt nk mention satu2..smoga Allah membalas jasa baik dorg dgn sebaik2 kebaikan ats segala ilmu yg diajar. Amin..

sekian. selamat beribadah kwn2. =)

Short trip to Scotland and plans during summer

Assalamualaikum readers,
Calton Hill, Edinburgh

Alhamdulillah, the exams just finished 2 weeks ago and we are still waiting for the results to be released soon. Hopefully, everyone will passed 4th year and move on to final year. Aminn. teruskan berdoa dan berusaha..

So, this time actually xd ape yg nk update sgt cuma rasa xsabar nk blk Msia sgt2, nk peluk anak2 buahku Safiyya and baby Adam yg msg2 da nk msk 8 bulan and 3 bulan respectively. bole la kot wt developmental milestone kt depa nanti..hehe..(so medic).

Actually, terkilan ckt sbb tahun ni xdpt travel jauh2..asalnya nk p Prague, Czech tp apakan daya ade MARA clinical crash course plak..It was indeed a wake up call sgt! so, xjd..then, plan p tmpt yg plg murah flight ticket which is Glasgow. So, Teya and myself went there for 3 days and 2 nights. We stayed in the St. Enoch's hotel which is strategically located in the centre of Glasfow city beside St. Enoch shopping centre. highly recommended! good service and comfortable beds, Alhamdulillah.

Day 1:

Jalan2 kt Glasgow city via hop-on hop-off sightseeing tour sbb xwt proper plan before tu since last minute plan je nk p Glasgow ni. tp not bad jgk tp in the middle of the journey sejuk plak. dgn angin sejuk..ade 28 stops overall kt main attractions yg dia bwk tp kteorg tak turun pn in any of the stop sbb bajet nk p on the third day or ptg ckt nt. tapi, harapan tinggal harapan, blk hotel tertidur lena since seharian before tu xtidur sbb flight awl pg kt Dublin. mlm plak layan drama DILB. kuikui.
feveret hero, Raden Amzar. =)

Day 2:

Jln2 kt Edinburgh. we took the morning train and jmpe my petsis in Sapphire kat KYUEM, Hani..catch up stories with her after 4 years not seeing each other. seronok...n Hani bwk g jln2 kt Edin..sume within walking distance je which is very convenient. makanan halal plak merata2 ade, kiri kanan jalan. Mosque Kitchen punye nasi beriyani and curry chicken mmg uhmmph! Among the places we visited were Edinburgh castle, Camera Obscura, Edinburgh central mosque, Royal Mile road, Ediburgh university and Calton Hill which is a must place to go since it is one of UNESCO main heritage in Scotland.

Cantik and peaceful je ble layan nature..sambil tadabbur alam merasai alam yg berzikir pada Allah, rasa tenang sgt..walaupun hujan je that day, but it was worth it to enjoy the scenic view on top of the hill. Subhanallah..then, seronok jgk dpt knl2 dgn one group of students from China and Korea yg in the first place mintak tlg amek gmbr. then before blk, smpt mkn dessert kt satu kedai ni along the main road..mkn strawberry dessert and lovely macaroons..nyum2..menyesal xbeli byk..haha..(tamak)

Day 3:
All day long shopping je keje, since Glasgow famous with it's tourist centre of shopping attraction, second famous from London. jln punye jln smpi nk tercabut kaki, hujan plak tu kejap2..serius weather dia mcm cork..ahah.. Alhamdulillah, dpt beli souvenirs ckt utk family tercinta..beli yg ade SALE je..murah sgt, 7 pounds for a decent t-shirt.

Summer 'break' plans:

  1. Study  Medicine, O&G, Paeds, Surgery everything..Biiznillah..
  2. Elektif O&G kt Hospital Tuanku Jaafar.
  3. Do some analyzing for research project
  4. nak try revise blk Arabic from Bayyinah with NAK yg da tergendala berbulan lamanya
  5. family bonding time dan ehmm2..(bajet2 je)
  6. read buku agama, dengar ceramah agama.
Amin..=)

p/s: counting days. 5 days to go. =D

Life is one big test. Study

Assalamualaikum wbt,

Genap 2 bulan lg, then final exam!! woot2..time flies and the work is keeps on piling up. stress menggunung jgk last week, dgn asyk mengomel kt mama abah n kwn2 sume yg byk keje nk wt etc.

tp kdg2 we need to pause and reflect. so, I came across this short article from Pinterest actually which is very useful and sentap! jemput baca dan hayati maksudnya. =)

http://www.quranreading.com/blog/muslims-tips-going-through-hardships/

And at times like this, kne byk2 bersyukur and look how far we have come, how far Allah da bantu kte. segala nikmat yg diberi. despite all the struggles we r facing now, we need to be grateful. just look at those unfortunate people out there yg fighting for education. and we are struggling to finish the assignments? (irony)

Yes, we are unique in our own struggles..But remember, these hardships are test from Him. So, turn to Him, always remain hopeful and keep on praying. May Allah keep us steadfast in His deen. Amin..

Life is one big test. Study.-Dr. K
“No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah. And whoever believes in Allah – He will guide his heart. And Allah is Knowing of all things.” (Surah At-Taghabun:11)

p/s: hope the heat of spring will keep us warmth inside with motivation and love rather than stress in the mind. Selamat berjuang kwn2  =)

The perks of being a Malaysian student in Ireland

Assalamualaikum wbt,

Alhamdulillah, just done my Obs n Gynae case presentation n hands on exam. Everything went well Alhamdulillah..tp just kne improve on history presentation always mention the risk factors in the history presenting complaint. "You have a very good grasp of knowledge!" pheww..happy, first time kne puji sepanjang rotation ni. yela ape taknye, attach dgn SpR yg garang the whole time.. asyk kne marah je sampai kdg den senyum je ble dia betulkan mistakes kte. hehe.. hidup as medical student ni kne cekal.

And at this stage now, we have to really know our things inside out. I mean like this patient had ovarian cancer n the investigation is to do pelvic ultrasound. The question is how do you differentiate from the ultrasound that it is malignant or benign cyst? haaa..quite challenging I would say..so, mmg kne byk baca n ATTEND lectures. sbb once you attend, you get a better understanding on that topic.

So,  back to my main topic. The perks of being a Malaysian student in Ireland particularly in UCC from my perspective:

1. You know the answer but you are too SHY to voice it out. and the next second, you're Irish got remarks because he answered the question. It's not about getting compliments actually but rather to participate in class and being noticed by the lecturer. hee.So, kdg kne paksa diri utk say it out loud..walaupun salah ke betul ke, but that shows you are trying to engage with the lecturer and that's a positive sign!

2. You dunno how to mingle with them when most of the time you have been spending time with your other malaysians which means cakap melayu laaa.hahah

3. You're English doesn't get any better. heh. because reason no.2. so, always push yourself to mingle with them. I'm glad that some Irish can get along well with me especially from the same group as me since last year like Jacqui, Karoline, Eric, Ruth, Conal etc to name a few. huuu..

4. Sometime when you are attach with an Irish partner, the consultant seems bias. sobs2..they like to look at the Irish than me..I've heard about the same thing twice from my other malaysians..

In conclusion, actually eventhough da nak 4 tahun lebih duduk study kt Ireland ni, but I'm still adapting to the environment. hoping that I'll make more Irish friends and speak more fluently and better if I can get the cork accent. yes, I'm that ambitious because I'm a zone 2 type of person. haha..

Sekian...can't wait to go to Ballycotton this sunday with le housemates tercinta. In need of fresh air and some break..hehe..till then. =)

Appreciate your mom.

It was an emotional moment for me after witnessing a normal delivery today during my O&G rotation. The pain and struggle the mother went through from the first stage of labour was unbearable to see. Feeling unease at the side of the bed, not knowing what to do or help her, I just prayed in my heart that the mother will deliver her baby safely and that her child is healthy and safe.

At 11.30 am, it was 4cm. then after a few pressure pain the mother complaint of, and a few pushing assisted by the midwives, she finally delivered a healthy baby boy at 12.30 pm.. And the look from her face and her husband is priceless. they both cried of joy and relief.

31:14
"Dan Kami wajibkan manusia berbuat baik kepada kedua ibu bapanya; ibunya telah mengandungnya dengan menanggung kelemahan demi kelemahan (dari awal mengandung hingga akhir menyusunya), dan tempoh menceraikan susunya ialah dalam masa dua tahun; (dengan yang demikian) bersyukurlah kepadaKu dan kepada kedua ibubapamu; dan (ingatlah), kepada Akulah jua tempat kembali (untuk menerima balasan)." Surah Luqman:14

"And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination."Surah Luqman:14

In my mind at the moment was my mother. sobs2..Always be grateful and appreciate your mother and be a good daughter or son to them. like  Nouman Ali Khan said in his tafsir Surah Luqman video: gratefulness and humility comes together. to be grateful to Allah and also people around you is an act of kindness. May we become the people of Alhamdulillah.

31:12

my beautiful mama. =)
See you soon, Malaysia dan seisinya. 4 months n counting..hehe..but for now, let's strive and do our best in 4th year shall we.. =)
