Don't jump off the bridge!!

Don’t jump off the bridge!!

Mr. D is a 63 years old single divorced man living in G* for 6 years was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He is a civil engineer and used to work as a Math teacher in Africa. He described himself as qual(extreme distress of body and mind) with his feelings. He felt sad since he and his ex-wife divorced. He believe in community and saying that his stay in G* helped him to feel better with himself, to do some washing up, keeping the bed tidy and now he cook himself Vegan diet. He has had insomnia years ago and need to take sleeping tablets but still feel foggy in the morning. Now, his sleeping patterns have become normal although he is feeling tired most the time lying in bed. Nevertheless, when asked about what he enjoyed most, he said singing, going out to the city and writing a book. He felt that by writing a book helps him to express his feelings. He divorced in 1991 and had 2 daughters each 27 and 28 currently living in Scotland with the step father. He left Scotland because he was rejected for his project. He has applied for the Cork city partnership employment for people with disability. He finds drinking Ginseng tea help to boost his energy. He currently on Lithium, Epilim(sodium valproate), Serase and folic acid. No known drug allergies. He smokes 10-15 cigarettes per day for 30 years but trying to stop twice using Nicorette but unsuccessful. He is a binge drinker. There is no relevant family history of psychiatric illness. His father died at 73 years due to cataract complications during surgery and his mother died at 83 years of old age. All his 3 brothers are well and only one married but no children. He said he grew up in the argumented family with shouting to each other, mom being loud is the dominant one in the family while his father being a quiet one. He felt happy when his father put his hands around his mother’s waist but felt sad afterwards when his father put his hand away. He was good in school and very active when he was young. He is vulnerable with fighting environment like when he was in Belfast. He attempts suicide to jump off the bridge after following a crazy guy advice but fortunately he is saved by a couple after they rang the ambulance.  I advised him “if there’s one thing you can remember from this visit; Don’t jump off the bridge!”.

This was my report for the visit but actually it was more fun and scary than what it seems. hehe. well at first, he welcomed with a warmth smile but afterwards when I start asking questions his face went blank and furious at some times and I don't know how to respond. I act normal and try to be natural. After a brief introduction, I asked:

Me: How r u feeling today?
He: I feel nervous meeting with someone from one side of the world with different culture. HAHA.

And then he start mentioning about Islam. and I asked what does he know about Islam?
Misconceptions: Men are treated better than women. Quran is written by Prophet Muhammad. Islam is about war.Overwhelmed by the misconceptions, I tried to explain generally that there are not right. Suprisingly, he reads quran and finds it is poetic and many strories inside.

While asking about his life, what makes him feel sad, one hypothesis I can come out is most of illness rooted from family breakdown;divorce. "I felt happy when my father put his hands around my mother’s waist but felt sad afterwards when my father put his hand away." He finds himself vulnerable in a fighting situation when his mom shouting at his father.

And then when he told about his daughters, a light of hope appeared. I treasured them the most especially my youngest. She makes me laughed and tickles me, not physically. hehehe.. And when asked what makes he feels sad? He said "When I know I'm not going to meet my daughter for 12 months" . T.T At that moment, I picture my father in my mind and heart that I showed him the picture of my family in my tablet at the end of the visit. so personal. haha..

Few feedbacks from him that makes me feel much more confident: You have a very good eye contact, not like a psychologist who only jot down everything he says without looking at me! You know eye contact is the part of healing" You make me feel comfortable." =)

Trying my best to give dakwah to the people I met. And apparently, he is a very nice man. =)

Praying that everyone who is afflicted with any illness will recover by the healing of the Healer,Allah. =)

And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. Surah As-Syu'ra:80

Welcome 2014! =)

Assalamualaikum wbt,

Every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year of every decade of our lives is an opportunity to do better than the previous one.-Mufti Menk

Alhamdulillah, lg beberapa jam lg nk msk tahun baru 2014. bukanlah beerti nk menyambut tp sebaiknye kte amek peluang utk audit diri. audit ape yg kte da wat selama tahun lepas or generally for this whole while 22 years living in this earth. amek peluang utk reflect ape yg patut kte wat lebih atau kurang. lebihkan yg baik dan kurangkan maksiat/lagha ok? bukan lebihkan gula plak...menyambut seru kerajaan utk berjimat eh? hee

bcoz they are getting married.. In shaa Allah..rinduu..<3

Ok la rsenye, kali ni nk jujur je la ape yg den rse for this whole while, i mean 2013 has been a great year after all but nevertheless ade cabaran dan dugaan, konflik yg telah dihadapi, berupaya utk mematangkan diri harapnye. walau ape pun yg berlaku, yakinlah ade hikmahNya. dan yakinlah dunia ini hanyalah sementara dan bertindaklah seperti seorang musafir yg hanya akn bawa ape yg perlu. but in mind, dunia inilah perjuangan hidup kte utk mencari redha Allah.

(Q.S. al-Baqoroh [2]: 214).

dan kte perlu ingat setiap org ade struggle msg2 dan seharusnye kte struggle for the sake of Allah alone. in terms of our studies, amanah sbg seorang khalifah di bumi Allah ini, dan balance dgn sebg hamba Allah. ape2 pun it go back to basic our niat. niat yg ikhlas lillahi Taala..i know it's easier said than done, tp yakinlah dan teruskan berdoa moga Allah bimbing hati kte yg bersifat bolak-balik ni. Berdoa dari hati yg dlm penuh kerintihan meminta dariNya.

Yaa Muqallibal Quloob Thabbit Qalbee ‘alaa Deenik.
Oh turner of the hearts (Allah, the Most High), keep our hearts firm on your religion”[Authenticated by al-Albanee in al-Jaam'i as-Sagheer 1323/7988]
n juz like exams, life will gets tougher indeed time by time.. ujian adalah sebenarnye utk meninggikan darjat kte.
missing mama n abah so much. =')
so, expect to bear heavier burden, bigger struggle.. huuuuuu..rsenye mcm da xmampu nk bernafas plak sebenarnye ble dok fikir satu satu tanggungjawab yg ade....semoga Allah kuatkan hati2 kte dan tsabatkan hati2 kte dlm perjuangan yg suci utk menegakkan Islam di muka bumiMu.  kuatkan diri dgn membaca AQ, menghayati kalam2 Allah, menulusuri sirah2 Rasulullah SAW dlm menyebarkan dakwah. betapa hebatnya ujian yg para Nabi hadapi, namun mereka tetap teguh dan istaqamah berdakwah menyeru manusia dgn kalimah syahadah La illa Ha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah. ambil ibrah n follow their footsteps.

"Kerana kamu, darah Rasulullah SAW mengalir,
kerana kamu, air mata Rasulullah SAW mengalir"

Aminn.. =)
teruskan berdoa utk saudara2 kte seluruh dunia terutamnya di syria, Palestin, Myanmar, Filipina dan dearest country Malaysia.

PUISI 2013: The best of stories- Pearls from Surah Yusuf oleh Ustaz Zahazan

Assalamualaikum,

Konflik & Penyelesaian
konflik berlaku disebabkan perbezaan pendapat utk memperolehi sesuatu drp sumber yg xcukup, menewaskan musuh. Dlm surah Yusuf, pelbagai konflik berlaku seperti konflik dalaman Nabi Yusuf utk merahsiakan kelebihannya menafsirkan mimpi drp abg2nya, konflik kuasa dan perbezaan pendapat antara abg2 Nabi Yusuf, konflik hukuman oleh Nabi Yaakub ke atas anak2nya yg mengadakan konspirasi ke atas Nabi Yusuf etc. one after another dan segala konflik dpt diatasi dgn baik dgn adenye iman yg sahih dan benar kpd Allah:
               i.            Sabar

                             ii.            Redha
                            iii.            Ikhtiar
                            iv.            Istiqamah:
                             v.            Doa:
                          vi.           Taubat

Pembinaan Personaliti

"Bila kamu berhenti membaca, kamu berhenti menjadi pemimpin"- quoted. (ouch)

2 ciri utama dlm pembinaan personaliti :
  1. Iffah  ((   عفة
'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) used to supplicate:

"O Allah! I beseech You for guidance, piety, chastity and contentment."

[Muslim].

      ii.            Taqwa ((   تقوى

Kematangan personaliti: Muhsin, Hafiz. Alim, Soleh, Zahid, Mukhlis-ikhlas

In shaa Allah akn disambung pengisian2 seterusnya. =)

Too busy?

Assalamualaikum wbt,

Harapnye sume berada dlm limpahan rahmat Allah.. =)

Its been almost 2 months eh? time flies very fast.. and most of the time, we get too caught being busy with our routine n we tend to overlook many things which are way much more important. It's weird that we humans always wants more, compete to have more etc.

Just like what At-Takassur means, competiton in this world deluded you.
Your business keeping you distracted from remembering Allah.
A more detailed tafsir from Nouman Ali Khan available here for reference: http://www.linguisticmiracle.com/tafsir/takathur

beautiful tafseer of surah at-takathur by NAK

This thought in me came recently after doing some self-reflections, looking back at the act, the type of conversation with housemates, the way we study etc. A simple advice from the tutor that taught us injections this morning;

"Talk to the patient, ask about the drug allergies etc. You need to get the bits n pieces to build a jigsaw puzzle. Don't get yourself so busy without communicating well with patients.. And a gud doctor is the one who can diagnose before getting the results"

So, the key point here is not just about communication but rather the quality of the work. The same thing apply when we study so hard for this particular subject like pathology, and we found the question in the exams is so -----speechless---- and suddenly this question appears in my head;

what went wrong? What have I done?

ai'mal yaqin vs ainal yaqin vs haqqal yaqin

yaqin: higher form of knowledge, solid conviction, absolutely convince with something(ie death), not just knowing it.

ai'mal yaqin: believing without seeing it
ainal yaqin: believing it after seeing it
haqqal yaqin: believe after seeing and feeling it.

I ask myself and each of you to ponder what we are doing; muhabasah frequently so dat our routine will have deeper meaning with blessing;barakah. May Allah accept our deeds.

"To err" is human and our gold is not to seek perfection but to always find way back to Allah. =')

first week class. =p

Assalamualaikum,

Alhamdulillah, selesai minggu pertama kelas; Orthopaedic week. bez jgk minus jetlag part yg menyebabkan diri ni mengantok je almost everyday mse kelas pagi2. need to control on dat like seriusly.

so many things happened a week before I flew back to Ireland. demam sbb kne hujan mse redah hujan nk p kedai buku Kamal tu. as a result jd crancky dat last week, when in fact dat's the crucial week where I want it to be perfect; read happy moments with family. tp disebabkan masih xmatang, sebab demam bole jd crancky dgn parents sume. huuu.. I regret so much.

nevertheless, I tried to fix it. still trying though. guess what I'm not alone in this similar situation, E Von n some other friends had d same problems.I guess our mind haven't compute yet dat we gonna leave home very soon. hmm..but Alhamdulillah, other than that everything went smoothly for me. except bits n there, flight delay, bag delay etc.

one thing that I learnt is anything dat our parents did for us is for our own benefit. so, just agree with them or at least if you're not dun show dat face of not agreeing and most importantly dun argue much. because they r always right. mne tahu sbb mama duk remind myself to drink water 24/7 menyebabkan den sihat, mne tahu sbb abah suruh minum air daun kaduk tu dpt sejukkan badan etc etc. they took gud care of me juz like I was still their baby. love being pampered though. heee.. but, I guess from my point of view everything needs modesty. not too much, nor too less. but parents are just being parents.

so, Alhamdulillah fever subsided when I came to Ireland. eczema too because I realised I cannot be in hot weather for too long..heheh..or else eczema attack will come. so, another reason to stay n work here? hahah..still planning though. anyway, its gud to be back. minus the homesickness. its weird when they are right in front of u, u dun really appreciate much, but when they r away, suddenly u become appreciative of their presence. so, its true the heart grew fonder when apart. sob2..

so kids, pliz appreciate ur parents while they r still alive. always make habit to sedekah Al-Fatihah to them after every Fajr prayer, give them a call/text whenever u're free etc etc. n never be shy to admit ur mistakes n seek forgiveness from them. sob2

on a side note, I've entered 3rd year Alhamdulillah.. time flies so fast n I still remember the first day I flew to Ireland with Ain sume. n now we already 3rd year which means clinical years gonna start next week. hehe..gud news, the AUCMS students will continue staying here for the rest of 5 years which means we gonna graduate together In shaa Allahh..hopefully the med school will accomodate all of us including the GEM students well. hee..but then let us pray that my other friends will pass their Autumn exams n continue 3rd year also.

excited to have our juniors here. for the rest of the kids, pliz come back soon..be prepared to enjoy 2nd year. hehehe..till we meet again..all d bez in everything dat u you. =)

Nenek tercinta.=')

Assalamualaikum,

Hati kurang sedap ptg tu walaupun esoknya nak pegi Sungai Petani. keseronokan nk p kenduri kawen cousin hilang entah ke mana. esok tu, kami pegi jgk ke sungai petani, (abah, mama, ainul dan diri sndri). singgah 3 tempat R&R (Seremban, Tapah, Sungai Perak) dan Alhamdulillah, tiba dgn selamat di hotel pkul 4 ptg. sempat baring sebentar sebelum nk pegi carik makanan.

mse tu, abah ckp nenek dlm keadaan kritikal.

[Surah Yassin:68]

mse raya haritu sebelum nk balik seremban, seperti biasa kami akan melawat nenek terlebih dahulu. smpt mintak nenek doakan utk cucu dia ni. sambil diri berkata" nopah sentiasa doakan nenek". saat tu air mata tak tertahan lagi. bercucuran seperti juga nenek. tak ku sangka itulah kali terakhir ku berjumpa nenek.

pukul 6.30 petang, mak lang mesej abah " Mak da nazak".

"Mak, xpe la, xpayah tunggu Enal. kalau mak nk pegi dlu xpe. Enal da nk smpai da tu" mak lang berbisik kat nenek.

Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.
[Noble Quran 2:156]

Amin. Al-fatihah,.

"2 peristiwa besar yg berlaku mse cuti nopah; mus kawen dan nenek meninggal" abah.
"rezeki nopah dpt tgk nenek sebelum balik ireland" mak ngah.
"nenek meninggal seminggu lepas raya, arwah atuk meninggal seminggu sebelum raya, macam date plak" mak itam.

p/s: seminggu lagi sebelum blk ireland. hati perlu kuat. tak usah kita bandingkan diri dgn orng yg lebih dari kita tp sentiasalah bandingkan dgn org yg lagi susah. teruskan berdoa utk saudara kte di Mesir. 2500+ org telah syahid di Mesir.

dulu, mak teh, busu, pak cik Hisyam sume yg pergi belajar oversea tak blk2 pun malaysia mse cuti. terus duduk sne straight 5/6/7 tahun. hang ni blk every raya, duduk Ireland, bersyukur la ye? heee.

p/p/s: sedang cuba menghabiskan buku Ilmu Makrifat peninggalan Tok Kenali sungguh sangat membuka mata hati utk mengenal Allah. sementara menyelesaikan hal2 utk pulang belajar ke ireland.

self reflections in Ramadhan.

Salam 24 Ramadhan,

It's been a long time dat we haven't met each other right? so, time is flying way too fast. Only 3 weeks left before I when back to Ireland. dunno why, but I tend to become quite emotional lately thinking about it but at the same time I have the feeling of eagerness and excited to start on my clinical years next sem plus missing everyone in Cork, the environment, the weather? etc etc. huhu.. well, putting that aside, currently I have so many random thoughts in my mind bout self-reflections..

Ramadhan being a holy month where we should aim to improve ourself in terms of our relationship with Allah and human kinds. . but sometimes we tend to slip somewhere, hurt someone's feeling without our intention, ego etc etc. and actually the best thing is to just seek forgiveness from that person and most importantly to Allah. And its such an amazing oppurtunity that Allah gave to us, its the Lailatul Qadar.

We have sent it (the Qur’an) down in the Night of Qadr. 1 (1) And what may let you know what the Night of Qadr is? (2) The Night of Qadr is much better than one thousand months. (3) The angels and the Spirit descend in it, with the leave of your Lord, along with every command. 2 (4) Peace it is till the debut of dawn. (5)

May Allah guide our hearts to find the night of Qadr and to always seek forgiveness from Him. this is one of the best video I've seen which tells about the best doa that Rasulullah SAW taught Aishah .

the next thing is the feeling of disappointed with my own self when I could not fulfill the all task given. well, in progress I should say but it's not efficient that I myself expect from myself. hmm. too much responsibilities? nahh.. Time management , multi-tasking, better delegations etc are the things that I shud improve on.

But, Alhamdulillah for every thing that Allah has made our task easy. be it from the preparation for my brother's wedding till the wedding itself, Muslim Overseas Camp 2013, everything in the past, present and future. too many nikmat for us to thank Allah. and so indeed through the remembrance of Allah you may find peace. zikir=remember/ingat. And indeed all the things are gud for you in the knowledge of Allah.

it's your job to find/believe the hidden meaning or in malay we called it "melihat yang tersirat dari yang tersurat".

so, chin up. n lets strive the best to gain His redha In Shaa Allah. La Hawla wala quwwata illa billah. =)
